Why Are Your Gutters Coming Loose?

If there’s one part of your home that helps a great deal in keeping your home dry and free of damage, it’s your gutters. However, they can also be a cause of damage if they start coming loose from their attachments.

Gutters Coming Loose

1. Your gutters are starting to sag. Your gutters are supposed to look straight along the roofline, particularly the fascia boards. However, if you notice that there is a section where it dips, then it is a sign of gutter sagging that must be addressed as soon as possible.

2. There’s a gap behind your gutters. During the day, check if your gutters are attached firmly to the fascia boards. If you notice that there is a gap between them, then your gutters are coming loose slowly. Fortunately, it is the easiest to fix – reattaching the gutter screws should help re-secure the gutters.

3. A spout is forming on your gutters. This happens when a gutter section is uncurling itself. It is possible that this problem occurred due to neglect or water expanding into ice in that area.

Why Are Your Gutters Coming Loose?

There are many reasons as to why your gutters are coming loose. Here are the most common reasons:

  • Loose gutter spikes – Gutter spikes are essentially a big nail that gets re-nailed into the same hole over and over again when they start coming loose. This happens when the fascia board they’re attached to has been damaged or because of the debris clogging inside your gutters.
  • Debris buildup – Many gutter and downspout-related problems happen because of debris accumulation. Too much it prevents your gutter system from directing water runoff away from your property. When rainy days come, you may not notice that your gutters are filled with water, which can be an excessive burden for your gutters the more this problem is ignored.
  • Improper installation – Inexperienced installers cut corners just so they can finish quickly with the gutter installation. However, they leave with a gutter system that has inadequate attachments, a lack of seal at the joints, and other problems. When you invest in new gutters, make sure the professionals you work with have the skill and expertise to get the job done efficiently.
